Variants
956A. At the Robber's House
The man is confined in a hot chamber where many corpses are hanging. As the robbers enter, he cuts off their heads one after the other [K912] and takes their treasure.
956B. The Clever Maiden Alone at Home Kills the Robbers
A great crowd of robbers come into the house at night. She kills the robbers one by one as they enter [K912]. In revenge one of the robbers appears as suitor for the girl [Q411.1]. The robbers catch the girl in a wood. She flees.
956C. Girl in Robbers' Den
Under pretext of bathing they shut themselves in a room and escape through a window. Sometimes leads to Type 879. Cf. Type 958E*.
